In Conversation with the UHNW Institute: The New Rules of Family Office Security

I recently sat down with Kristen Oliveri, Senior Institute Advisor at the UHNW Institute, for the SFO Circle Q&A Series, a conversation about how the risk landscape facing families has changed and what a serious response looks like.

We covered the ground I spend most of my time on: how children are navigating increasingly complex digital ecosystems, where cyber and physical risk now converge, and the practical steps family offices and families can take to strengthen their preparedness and resilience.

The argument I keep coming back to is that the most important development isn't a new threat. It is that the threats families already knew about have become cheap, fast and easy to personalize. AI didn't rewrite the attacker's playbook, it industrialized it. The good news is that the highest-return responses are rarely purchases. Code-word protocols, callback verification and a half-day tabletop exercise sit far closer to discipline and process than to technology.
